Hey, welcome back to the Handling It podcast. A lot of people kind of have some sort of income, some sort of a side hustle going, and one of the things I've been doing in my personal salon was having POM Mega available to my clients. I'm the founder is in my hometown. He has patented this incredible product. It's a supplement that you sprinkle on food And really the whole gist about the product is everything that your dog food is missing his supplements.
Speaker 2:I thought it was very interesting to listen to him and just hear his perspective, And I think that's one of the really great things about side hustles is that it kind of starts with like it's kind of born out of like a goal that you have or a dream, because a lot of times we're busy all day but we see these problems that we want to address. And I think that's what I love about side hustles is that it can turn into something so much more just because it's something that you're passionate about. And so just to hear Dr Farnham talk about how he saw a need for this and how his own dog was struggling with like itchiness and ear stuff and just all these problems that we see all these dogs have, And he was able to find a solution through his side hustle, which he was really passionate about. So it was really cool to hear other side hustles before he started grooming.
Speaker 1:Okay. So it wasn't really a side hustle, it was jobs, but it made me be able to have my career in full time groom, like one year down the road. So I was a painting instructor at night and a bartender. So I would. I would groom dogs from like seven to three And then I'd clock in to be a bartender at four to two, and the nights I didn't bartend, i did the paint and sip paint parties. I was the instructor. So I did that for the longest time. My most recent side hustle would be groomed curriculum And that's going to be a whole different episode. But yeah, of course I have a side hustle. I can't not just work. I have to, like, god put this dream on my heart And I just, if I'm not hustling something, if I'm not creating something out of nothing, then I don't.
Speaker 2:I just go insane So. I love side hustles as well. Yeah, you're a really motivated person, so I see that for you, and I've never taken one of those painting classes, but if you were teaching it I think I would enjoy it. Was everybody just like drunk and just like having fun?
Speaker 1:My sister was also. she was the person that would sign you up, take your money, make sure you're good, any questions, kind of thing like that. we hit the road together. So we really had the best time. We put the best playlist on. We had like kind of a following of painters Because, like, we were like I felt so bad for the people that started with my sister and I and then they went to like like, let's say, her name's Barb And she was just like and paint this tree. We really took the show on the road. We had so much fun with it.
Speaker 1:But did you have any side hustles or do you have any?
Speaker 2:I don't really, I don't know. I guess you could call competing a side hustle, because it's like when you're done grooming for the day, it's like the thing that I have to do is like maintain all my pets and like make sure their coats are good. And I'm yeah, I'm practical. Yeah, I know I've talked about it before, but when I first opened my business, I was door dashing and like delivering food and leaving little flyers at people's doors.
Speaker 1:I know I want to go back to the side hustle of contest grooming, because I know a lot of people always say what's the point of being a contest groomer? They don't see it until they dive in and do it once. Then they get it. But for the people that haven't done it and they don't get, what the point is is there's careers once you've done it. So, like your side hustle of contest career, you are also a product, a tester. You are a sponsored groomer for multiple different companies in our industry. So, absolutely, when you say I was hoping that that's what you're gonna say for your side hustle is because of you continuing your knowledge and getting in that ring and competing, your career as grooming Gavin is, you know, accelerated. It's you're doing the things and you know other people wanna do that and you're giving them kind of that paved road and other people in front of you. You know you had that paved road from other people, so it's just showing people you could do it. So that's for sure a side hustle.
Speaker 2:That is really cool because you know people wanna learn from you. So I've started teaching and it's really cool because I'm in this interesting place in my life where I'm teaching people the things that the people I'm still learning from have taught me and I'm just kind of absorbing this information and I'm passing it to other people and it's helping people who wanna get into this, you know, kind of find their way, but it's also helping me just really solidify my understanding of everything and it just helps our whole industry girl. So it's really fun.
Speaker 1:For sure, returning the education we've received, and I think that's the whole point of education, right? So, oh, i love that.
Speaker 2:We'll be right back with Dr David Farnum.
